In addition to duties with Welsh National Opera and the Royal Welsh College Alan also works with many music projects. On this site you can find out about 'Caberet Brass', a large scale multi media project, The Dragon lounge, Jackie Chan's Mop Band and some details of the school visits Alan does along with his Blog.

Alan is passionate about music. Through performing and teaching Alan wants to share his love for all types of music. Alan is dedicated to creating opportunities for people of all ages to bring music into their lives. This means creating opportunities through learning an instrument, joining a band or choir, telling stories through music or simply just listening to music with open ears. Alan has extensive experience working with schools and community groups and wants to bring this experience to the area for the benefit of all. Alan lives in Dursley, Gloucestershire and is busy both teaching and performing.

Alan studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Prior to joining WNO, Alan was Principal Bass Trombone with the Philharmonia of the Nations in Germany and Kwa Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa. He has also played in shows including Copacabana, Evita, Scrooge and Oliver!, with big bands such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra and appeared on TV and Radio.

Alan was born and grew up in Manchester. Alan began playing in the school band at the age of 6. By the age of 10 Alan won the ‘Junior Exhibition’ with Manchester Education Committee. This JE was a very lucky break and opened many doors. Before going to school at Chethams Alan played with all the major ensembles in Manchester including the Manchester Youth Orchestra. Alan also played with many brass bands including Black Dyke and Grimethorpe, jazz bands, pop bands, show bands in addition to chamber music and solo performances.
